Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to The Laughing Penguin website.

If you like top class stand up comedy in the north east, then you've come to the right place!

Since we started The Laughing Penguin in February 2008, we've had some of the best acts on the UK comedy circuit gracing our humble stage, such as Sarah Millican, Chris Ramsey, Gary Delaney, Jason Cook, Jim Smallman, Nathan Caton, and Joe Lycett, to name but a few. 

• Provide you (the audience) with the most laughs you can get for a price that isn't going to burn a hole in your wallet.

• Provide you with a comfortable environment in which to enjoy the show, and a wide selection of reasonably priced beverages.

Chortle Student Comedian of the Year 2012 @ The Bridge Hotel

 

 

Well, well, well, have we got some news for you!

 

The Laughing Penguin are incredibly proud and honoured to announce that on Wednesday 22nd February, The Bridge Hotel will be playing host to the Newcastle heat of Chortle Student Comedian of the Year.

 

Each year Chortle (essentially the ladies and gentlemen who know more about comedy than anyone), open their doors to students all over England, Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland to show whether they are the next big thing in the world of comedy.

 

Not only are we delighted to be hosting this event, but our resident MC, Tony Jameson will also be hosting the show aswell. 

 

It promises to be a fantastic occassion, so do feel free to pop down and show your support.

New Venue @ As You Like It, Jesmond

 

 

To mark our 3rd birthday as a brand, The Laughing Penguin were delighted to announce that we have started to run live stand up comedy at one of the funkiest bars in Jesmond, the beautiful, As You Like It.

 

For our opening show on the 7th February, we had 'eternal friend of The Laughing Penguin', Nick Cranston opening the show. The middle section featured the up-coming talents of Marc Smethurst, Alan Fletcher, and the fantastic, Kiri Pritchard McLean. Headling the show, and bringing the house to a rousing finale, was the wonderful Jonathan Mayor. 

 

Not only is it a superb room for comedy, it also serves fantastic food which we heartily recommend you sample before the show.
